NJFC to Support Important Dairy Re-Engineering Program

On Monday, NJFC will appear before the Senate Economic Growth Committee to testify in favor of a bill that would appropriate additional money to the Garden State Agricultural Re-Engineering Program to assist dairy farmers in New Jersey.

S-2467 has been developed to address the plight of the dairy farmer in New Jersey, who has been experiencing stiff competition from out of state dairy producers who are not subject to the same enormous operating costs confronting New Jersey producers. The additional appropriation will be used to fund programs designed to educate State dairy farmers on smart business practices and efficiencies that can be employed to help farmers compete in an increasingly global market place.

NJFC will also be advocating that the appropriation in the bill be extended to $1 million, thus giving the dairy community the resources necessary to make significant and much needed improvements in its ability to compete.

NJFC Remains Proactive on Health Care Issues

This week, NJFC meet with Assembly Republican staff to discuss Health Care issues as they relate to the food distribution industry including the industryıs excellent track record of providing quality coverage to employees as well as skyrocketing costs associated with providing that coverage.

NJFC continued to express the industryıs staunch opposition to employer mandates as well as a Health Care Tax, as floated last year, and supports measures to reduce costs and improve quality. NJFC anticipates the Health Care debate to become reinvigorated after lawmakers finalize the State Budget for Fiscal Year 2008, this summer.

NJFC will continue meeting with decision makers as part of our Health Care Outreach initiative to show the industryıs leadership in proving quality Health Care coverage to employees.
