2008 EVENT SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM UNDERWAY –IS YOUR COMPANY NAME ON THIS GROWING LIST!
NJFC introduced the Event Sponsorship program in 2005 with outstanding success and the association is now accepting commitments for 2008.

The program will continue to include four levels of sponsorship that will entitle companies to a pre-determined number of tickets to NJFC events, including the Annual Meeting, Night of Distinction, Trade Relations Conference and the Golf Outing. In addition, event sponsors will receive recognition in NJFC publications such as the News & Views and the quarterly newsletter ExpressLine, on our web-site as well as acknowledgement in promotional materials and placement on banners at NJFC events. Sponsors are considered premium supporters of NJFC.

We just kicked off the 2008 sponsor campaign and already NJFC members are demonstrating their strong support for this program. Let’s add your company name to the list of NJFC premium sponsors! Contact us today for details.

BOTTLE BILL LEGISLATION INTRODUCED IN NEW JERSEY
Called the “Smart Container Act”, A-4483 sponsored by Assemblywoman Vainieri Huttle, was introduced and referred to the Assembly Environment and Solid Waste Committee. This bill would require a 10-cent deposit on all plastic and glass bottles and aluminum cans which are less than 24 oz. and a 20-cent deposit on all beverage containers over 24 oz, up to 3 liters. The proposal includes juice, sports drinks, and bottled waters, as well as soda, wine and beer containers.

NJFC and members of the Government Affairs Committee will be meeting with the sponsor, chairs of the Environment Committee in both houses and NJDEP officials to address our opposition to the bill, present the industry’s “Green Platform” and explain the merits of the Clean Communities Program, an initiative supported by members that replaces deposit legislation and was a response to the rejection of a bottle bill in NJ more than 20 years ago.

DOHERTY RECEIVES GMA “EXCELLENCE IN GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS” AWARD
NJFC President Linda Doherty was honored with the Grocery Manufacturers Association “Excellence in Government Affairs” Award. This national award was formally announced and presented to Linda last week at the Food Industry Association of Executives Conference in California. This honor is presented annually to one state executive who has shown outstanding leadership in Government Affairs and recognizes the importance of addressing issues that impact manufacturers, suppliers and food retailers.

In a letter announcing the recognition, NJFC Chairman Bill Sumas asked the members to “Join me in congratulating Linda on this most prestigious honor and sending her best wishes for a job well done. We are proud of her achievements on behalf of the food industry and the NJFC membership.”
